Eurodance 2011!: "Malhão" (JI Tojais)

Project Overview

The project will officially begin on Monday 14th of March 2011. Each school should introduce themselves to the other contestants by posting details of their school/class on the blog (http://eurodance2011.blogspot.com) by Friday 1st April 2011. This could be a short video, pictures or information typed into the blog. Each school should also include details of their chosen dance.

Each school should then practise their dance and film their final performance. This video should be uploaded to the blog by Friday 3rd June 2011.

All schools should then watch the completed performances and score each school out of 10, except their own, on the online voting system by Friday 10th June 2011. The scores will be added together and the winner posted on the blog.

The winning school will be rewarded with a trophy! All schools will receive a certificate for taking part.

"Malhão" (JI Tojais)

Our dance is a popular and simple dance in the north of Portugal.The name "Malhão" probably had its origin in some agricultural instrument and it danced a special choreography, men and women had queude up, face to face. They're approaching and turn away and beat the rhythm with their feet. The end of the dance is when they closed all the wheel and jumped together.

AGIA NAPA PRIMARY SCHOOL - CYPRUS

Hello. We are the “Agia Napa Primary school” in Cyprus. Our School is located in Agia Napa, a small tourist town on the southwestern part of Cyprus, very close to the occupied town of Famagusta. Our school is the biggest public primary school of Famagusta area and it has 290 pupils. In our school we have also a department for pupils with special needs. A big percentage of our pupils (40% ) come from different European countries, like the U.K , Bulgaria, Romania, Poland and Russia or from mixed marriage. The percentage of foreign students attending the school keeps rising over the past few years because a lot of people come to Agia Napa either as workers on tourist field or as immigrants willing to live in a quiet seaside resort near the town of Agia Napa. Last year Cyprus won “Eurodance 2010” with the “ First Elementary School of Xylofagou” .We hope that we will do the same with our school this year.

The 5th Primary School - Greece

The 5th Primary School is situated in the north part of Florina. The school has a history of more than 80 years. It is a public School that receives money from the government and follows the government criteria in every aspect. The schooling ages range from six to twelve years old. There are a total of 130 students and 20 teachers.Our students are really eager to share their world with other cultures. We believe that by involving in various workshops and multicultural activities with children from other countries, our students will appreciate cultural diversity and the importance of team work. It is hoped that this inspiring programme will promote the participants' self-development.

Istituto Statale “E. Montale” - Italy

The Istituto Statale “E. Montale” is a state secondary school which has four different types of courses for high school students between the ages of fourteen and nineteen. Each Liceo Linguistico-Turistico is a humanities course which gives emphasis to the study of modern languages. Students study a choice of three European languages and learn about the lives and culture of their European peers, they also study tourism, in particular regarding the supply and demand of tourism in Tuscany and the Valdera (the countryside around Pontedera). Children go to school from Monday to Saturday from 7.50 a.m to 12.50 p.m. Students in our school participate in cultural exchanges or study trips with their European counterparts, LLP programmes and work placement projects depending on the course followed.

Klaipeda Gedminai Main School - Lithuania

Our school is located in Klaipeda, on the west coast of Lithuania. Klaipėda Gedminai main school was established in 1974. Our school is rather big. There are 950 students and more than 80 teachers. The school is active and well known for its activities of Tolerance Education Centre, Ethnoculture centre and also after school activities. Our school is always open for innovations and takes part in the Education Improvement and Renovation Projects. Hello, we are Primary School No 32 in Bielsko-Biała, Poland. Bielsko and Biała, two former cities on opposite banks of the Biała River joined together in 1951. Town rights: 1312 - Bielsko; 1723 - Biała. Our school is situated in the district of Bielsko-Biała called Wapienica, at the foot Beskidy Mountains. The Ecological Park in Wapienica Valley(Louisa Valley) is one of the most beautiful areas in town. Our school was established 87 years ago.
